Photos on Canvas Ideas. Your Pics - Your Art.

What is a Pic on Canvas. Some Tips and Guides.

A photograph on canvas is a picture that's just printed onto canvas and then normally stretched over a frame.

However, there are important things to consider before you order a canvas print.

Resolution / Quality

The better the quality / resolution of your photo, the better the quality of the print. You should check your camera settings and make sure that you have it set to the highest quality, dpi and at the largest size. Be aware that what might look great on a phone screen, remember that your screen is small so for a photo canvas , being a lot larger, you must have good resolution pics.

Composition / Camera Grid Lines

When you're deciding on the size, layout of the canvas you'd like to order, in our editor use the Zoom and Pan function to play around with the layout. Be creative. Think of how the professionals take their photos. Have a look now at a magazine cover and there's a good chance that it's cropped so that not all a persons head is showing, or the main focus point of the picture is off centre. Try it out.

Also on this point, if you go through your camera settings you'll see the option of a Grid. This just divides your screen into thirds to help you with the photo composition. Again it's all about having the main focal point off centre. It can make a great difference to your photo.

Pre Print

What we do when we have your order is first we check the colours etc and make any small adjustments to the colour values, tones etc. We also check the resolution / quality to make sure it will make a nice photo canvas print. If not we will contact you and see what can be done. There are a few tricks, or art filter options we can use but if we have to cancel the order we will refund you.

I'm a graphic designer by trade so I naturally have professional software so it's easy for me to make these little alterations. It's also just natural that I want your canvas, any canvas to be as fantastic looking as possible.

Design

If you have any requests, say you'd like some text added, we can do that here for you. It's very popular for a newly Wed to have the lyrics of "The First Dance" printed onto a canvas photo with the photo to match. While in our Design your own canvas section you can add text, it's better that we do it here. It may be necessary to add a little transparent box or some effect so the text can be seen.

Production and Printing

Once we have done all the pre checks and artwork, we are then ready to print. This is where the printers, materials etc are important for a lasting and quality Photo Canvas.

We use a specialist Canon 12 colour printer. The extra colours give an amazing picture quality second to none. The inks are uv and eco friendly meaning they will last a life time and longer before any of the colours will fade.

We also only print on pure cotton. We don't use the Polyester Canvas or Polyester / Cotton mix. Because it's 100% Cotton the natural fibers of the material fully absorb the inks, so in effect they become scratch resistant. There is no need for a protective varnish to be applied to the print. Some of these varnishes may degrade or yellow over time so no matter how good the inks are, the brake down of the varnish can ruin a photo canvas. There is another great benefit to the cotton not needing a varnish. Your Canvas Photo can be hung anywhere, even beside a window or in direct sunlight. You won't get any light glare from the surface of the canvas so your print will always look fantastic.

When everything is printed we then hand stretch your photo canvas over our frames. We have two depths of frames, or lite frames are 18mm deep and we use these for our 12" and 16" selection of canvases and then for our Premium Photo Canvases we use 38mm deep frames. All our stretcher bars are kiln dried so they won't warp and we hand stretch the canvas print to make sure we get a nice tension on the canvas.

Well, that's it, Just a quick over view of the process in making your Photo Canvas. If you'd like any more info or need any advise on any projects you may have, just get in touch and we'll be happy to help in any way we can.
